Photo Essay #2 Final: And Then There Were Three
Duston
Newton and Andrea Sherman recently went through a loss. But not a typical
relative loss, a personal loss of their own. Andrea, who was 12 weeks pregnant
at the time, went to the hospital with huge stomach pain; later that evening in
the ER receiving the news after tests and ultrasounds that her baby, only the
size of about a toy solider wasn’t planted in her stomach at all. It’s often
referred to as an Ectopic Pregnancy. With
no other option but to get an abortion of the baby, Andrea was left scarred
physically and emotionally. Now nine months later, passing her original due
date, the couple has gone through a series of greater news. One very special in
particular- she is pregnant again. Feeling hopeful for this new pregnancy once
again, they are excited to start announcing that they are expecting. I got the
chance to photograph the couple a little bit and help them start announcing that
the two are turning into three. These photos I believe show the real excitement
of the couple and especially on Andrea’s face knowing that she is carrying a
baby once again. Although it was tough to start showing things that could
relate to their previous story, some of the things that they are holding are
from their previous pregnancy, such as the baby socks, and old onezies they had
to create a banner of the due date.
We Prayed. As New Christians, Andrea and Duston
looked to God with faith that he would provide another chance for them to start
a family.

You plus Me equals three. Duston and Andrea
smile as they try to have others figure out this equation of the couple getting
ready to announce their pregnancy.

Looking at Andreas face, pure happiness shows.
She smiles, looks at her partner, and holds her stomach.
